What is the relationship between Bioenergetics and Reiki?

Bioenergetics describes the energy involved in forming and breaking chemical bonds within the body. Did you know we can harness that energy?

As a Make Your Own Magic Coach, I tell my clients that I work with Reiki and bioenergetics to help them break down old ways of thinking that don’t work and to redevelop neurological pathways within the brain. All of the above helps us to tap into the world around us to ultimately Make Magic.

First, what are bioenergetics?

Bioenergetics describes the energy involved in forming and breaking chemical bonds within the body. Bioenergetics additionally plays with the energy relationships and energy transformations in living organisms. The ability to harness energy from a variety of metabolic pathways is a property of all living organisms and that is what we are working with in bioenergetics.

When we acknowledge that energy within our bodies, we can start to tap into how to use it for our benefit!

Let’s go back to 8th-grade chemistry for a minute.

To understand any of the above, let’s talk about basic energy. We, as humans, are swirling balls of atoms. Each atom within our body is connected to one or more other atoms through chemical bonds.

Still remembering? Still following?

Each chemical bond within the body stores energy, both through potential energy and kinetic energy. As bonds break and reform as part of the gazillion chemical processes that happen within our bodies each minute, we as a whole human emit an electromagnetic frequency (a measurement of energy) that represents how effective our bodies are at moving through general human functions.

We are swirling balls of energy.

Bottom line: as swirling balls of atoms within which atoms are constantly breaking apart from each other and subsequently reforming bonds with each other, we’re using energy and emitting energy. We are thus swirling balls of ENERGY and we can start to tap into it for our benefit! This is the basic definition of bioenergetics!

And this is what we tap into to make magic!

From my perspective, Making Magic is all about recognizing and being consciously aware of the energy that I’m feeling and that I’m emitting. My fundamental understanding and practice of Making Magic and creating anything I want has everything to do with energy, and it’s ALL based on science! That’s my favorite part!

Everything I do to manifest my perfect reality is based on math and chemistry - it’s not “woo woo!”

So how does Reiki play into this whole “bioenergetics” thing and what does it mean for YOU?

Reiki is an ancient energy practice and is defined as Life Force Energy. As a Reiki practitioner and Reiki Master Teacher, I can teach you how to harness the frequency of thought (yes, thoughts have their own specific electromagnetic frequency).

From there we can learn to direct that energetic frequency to future situations, to physical bodies, and past experiences. You will learn to harness energetic fields for good so you can clear emotional blocks, mental frustration, and any physical maladies that may be stopping you from achieving your highest potential.

Bioenergetics and Reiki are intimately connected.

This stuff isn’t mainstream - but it’s real.

Bioenergetics is an amazing phenomenon that we haven’t yet explored fully. My goal, as a doctoral student of bioenergetics and coach, is to introduce you to this science in an accessible way. After working together you will know how to reach into the space beyond yourself and create, simply by ‘being,’ ‘thinking,’ and ‘intending’ at a specific frequency.

Is there a connection between physical & emotional experiences in our bodies?

What if our bodies aren’t expressing themselves based on physical conditions? What if, instead, our bodies are reacting to our emotional states? For example, what if the most effective way to treat an upset stomach is having a conversation about a situation which we’re having trouble “stomaching”?

I’m having trouble starting this, and I’m not sure why, so let’s explore that. My seeming “mental block” around describing the connection between the physical body and its emotional state may have everything to do with what I’m writing about.

Woman sitting on couch reading an ipad with physical human body in image.

We tend to focus on our physical symptoms.

When looking at symptoms the body generates and why our body acts the way it does under certain conditions, most people, at least in the Western world, look at what we’ve been experiencing physically.

What have we done recently?

How have we been taking care of our bodies?

What chain of events has physically led our body to this point?

Is it possible our physical symptoms are emotional?

What if we were to shift our “symptomatology paradigm?” What if our bodies aren’t expressing themselves based on physical conditions? What if, instead, our bodies are reacting to our emotional states? For example, what if the most effective way to treat an upset stomach isn’t with antacids or with compounds that help quell nausea, but with having a conversation about a situation that we’re having trouble “stomaching”?

Similarly, imagine treating an aching shoulder with a therapy that helps treat anxiety, or the overwhelm that comes with feeling a need to “shoulder the weight of the world” because no other physical therapies that focus on that shoulder joint will do the trick?

Emotional and mental health go hand in hand with our physical health.

In a world where mental health (defined as including our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, and ultimately how we handle stress) is becoming paramount in defining our overall health, we often hear that emotional and mental health go hand in hand with our physical health. They’re connected. You can’t have one without the other.

This is most certainly true, but in the realm of energetics, we can take it one step further. What if our mental and emotional states are the basis for why our bodies function the way they do? What if, not only do they go hand-in-hand, one leads to the other? And not in the way we had originally suspected?

What if all of our physical symptoms - negative and positive - are a direct reflection of how we’re doing mentally?

It’s a chicken or the egg conundrum: Which leads to which?

This may seem a bit far-fetched, but when we look at our bodies as big swirling balls of atoms, we are simply big swirling balls of energy, based on potential and kinetic energies that are stored and released when chemical bonds are formed and broken.

Let’s talk about electromagnetic frequency’s role in all of this.

Each human’s personal electromagnetic frequency, or energy, can be quantitatively measured and that measurement is based on how our bodies are functioning. Balanced hormones, increased immunity, and increased cell integrity all lend themselves to higher electromagnetic frequencies.

If we’re not feeling well, we have a much lower frequency than if we’re functioning at our healthiest. The fun piece to play about our frequency is the evidence-based notion that emotions can also be measured on an electromagnetic level.

For example, the emotion of Love has been measured specifically at 528 mHz. This has at least two exciting applications: If we can continue to increase and maintain a personal electromagnetic frequency of or around 528 mHz, we will ultimately be a big swirling ball of ... yep, you guessed it, Love.

Additionally, if we’re feeling something other than Love, contentment, joy, or maybe hope, we are likely sitting at an emotional state below that 528 mHz point and our physical bodies are reflecting what happens when the body functions at that lower level.

Fear, grief, jealousy, or any other emotion that feels less than complete contentment and joy sits much lower on the electromagnetic scale. By addressing, and subsequently adjusting that emotional state, through meditation, exercise, or even clear communication, we can raise our frequencies and improve the way our physical bodies are functioning.

Let’s take it even one step further: Our bodies are extremely literal! Did you know that even words carry a frequency or a vibration? Remember those studies that measured how well a plant grew based on how you spoke to it? If you said loving words, the plant would grow and flourish, while if you insulted or berated the poor plant, it would become stunted or even fail to thrive at all.

Your body will express what you’re mentally playing with. Having literal foot pain? Maybe you’re having trouble taking the next step forward, or maybe you’re struggling to stand on your own two feet. While it’s your foot that’s hurting, it’s your confidence or fear of the unknown that’s screaming for attention!

The connections between physical and emotional experiences need to be part of the conversation.

Remember those examples at the beginning of this post? Not being able to “stomach” a situation, or maybe feeling like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, can both be mental issues that are manifesting themselves physically within your being.

There are a gazillion ways to connect the mental and emotional aspects of our experience with our physical body, and I’m finding the most effective way to manage pain, depression, anxiety, or any other negative “symptom” within the body is to look at how we’re feeling as the first clue!

I’m realizing my resistance to sitting down and writing about this had everything to do with feeling overwhelmed at explaining it. So now that I have, I’m feeling so much more flow! I love how it all connects!

What does the word “Magic” even mean?

I believe in true magic. My version of Magic, though, doesn’t use a magic wand. In fact, it doesn’t use anything…

There are several definitions of the word magic, all of which seem to involve the idea of creating something phenomenal or making the seemingly impossible appear in reality. Additionally, most definitions agree that magic is created by an illusion (so it’s not real), by something outside of us, or by something that we can’t otherwise define.

Magic, by all definitions, is an illusion, something that’s not real but that might seem awesomely real.

I don’t agree with the definitions above. I believe in true magic.

Personally, the idea of magic has never been something far away or unattainable. When I think of Magic, I envision what it feels like to wave a magic wand and, with a few swooshes, my fairytale-giggle-and-dance-worthy-version of life appears gorgeously in front of me.

I’ve always known this is possible, but I didn’t understand how to play with it. Until recently.

So what is Magic? Magic is waking up in my own “happily ever after”.

Here’s what I mean: Ten years ago, I was a struggling single mom, doing everything I knew to create a safe place for two very young daughters, living in an apartment I couldn’t afford, working at a barely-above-minimum-wage job, and wondering in every moment how I would provide for them, both mentally and physically. I didn’t even get the time or opportunity to worry about myself and my own health.

NOW, in the “one day I wish …” version of my reality, I live with my three best friends - my partner and two teenage daughters, and all we do is LAUGH. And talk about life. And laugh some more. And then create rich, vibrant memories.

Magic is REAL.

Today, we have not one, but two, of the dogs I promised my girls in that bleak memory. We even have two cats, too! We live in our own house, in my perfect neighborhood, with our favorite furnishings and spaces, surrounded by neighbors who have become family.

I get to be my own boss, in my favorite home office, and I get to do a happy dance after EVERY client - that’s how much I love what I do!

I even get to schedule my clients around runs with the puppies, high school sports games (I hardly miss any), or impromptu trips to see our grandbabies - a luxury to support myself that I never got to consider ten years ago. There’s no more worrying about rent or the mortgage, or the grocery bill, or if I can afford for my girls to eat lunch at school on any given day.

In fact, there’s no more “One day, I wish ..” at all!

We’re doing it, and I wake up daily, absolutely in love with what I have.

All of the above is all fine and good, but the part I adore most about Magic is the acknowledgment piece.

I decided what I wanted and I waved my magic wand and .. voila!

I know that everything I love about my day and everything I love about this life is MINE because I chose Magic and believed that I absolutely could.

My version of Magic, though, doesn’t use a magic wand. In fact, it doesn’t use anything .. but ME! I’ve known since I was a tiny human that I had an internal power that swooshes and creates from within. There’s no illusion, there’s no gimmick. Just me. Just my thoughts and my intentions. Just my connection something outside of me; with the energy around me.

Bottom line: I AM the Magic. I am Magical and so are you!

Ok, swell, you’re Magical. But how do you Make Your Own Magic?

I consider Magic to come in two parts: the result (mine is explained above) AND the process. And both parts are all about the FEEL of it.

Making Magic means feeling, to me, like I’m flying. No, soaring.

While it’s very cliche, my ability to Make Magic means that I’m moving through my days and, ultimately, my life without any hindrances or resistance. When I’m allowing myself to truly accept myself and love every emotion, even when things get frustrating, I jump onto the “flow” bandwagon.

I ask myself, “How can I switch the script? How can I make this feel better? How can I let go of the memories or the things I’m telling myself that don’t work? How can I love this moment MORE?”

All of the flow comes with letting go of berating myself for what WAS and letting go of the labels I’ve given myself in order to survive in past moments. SO, when I’m in the process of Making Magic, it feels like every perfect, amazing, beautiful emotion and feeling wrapped up into one gorgeous package, with the dazzling bow and gift wrapping included!

Magic FEELS like falling in love, coming down the stairs on Christmas morning…

…waiting for that brief second at the top of a roller coaster before it plummets, and watching your baby fall asleep as she’s curled into your side, all in one sensation.

Making Magic comes from the heart and when you feel it, the sparkles and rainbows living in and simultaneously exploding outward, deliciously tickle your chest.

So to recap: Magic is NOT an illusion. Magic comes from within. Magic feels absolutely delightful and brilliant. Magic is real. And I’m not the only one who can Make Magic. I just know how.

YOU can Make Magic, too!

Do you choose magic?
