Is there a connection between physical & emotional experiences in our bodies?
I’m having trouble starting this, and I’m not sure why, so let’s explore that. My seeming “mental block” around describing the connection between the physical body and its emotional state may have everything to do with what I’m writing about.
We tend to focus on our physical symptoms.
When looking at symptoms the body generates and why our body acts the way it does under certain conditions, most people, at least in the Western world, look at what we’ve been experiencing physically.
What have we done recently?
How have we been taking care of our bodies?
What chain of events has physically led our body to this point?
Is it possible our physical symptoms are emotional?
What if we were to shift our “symptomatology paradigm?” What if our bodies aren’t expressing themselves based on physical conditions? What if, instead, our bodies are reacting to our emotional states? For example, what if the most effective way to treat an upset stomach isn’t with antacids or with compounds that help quell nausea, but with having a conversation about a situation that we’re having trouble “stomaching”?
Similarly, imagine treating an aching shoulder with a therapy that helps treat anxiety, or the overwhelm that comes with feeling a need to “shoulder the weight of the world” because no other physical therapies that focus on that shoulder joint will do the trick?
Emotional and mental health go hand in hand with our physical health.
In a world where mental health (defined as including our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, and ultimately how we handle stress) is becoming paramount in defining our overall health, we often hear that emotional and mental health go hand in hand with our physical health. They’re connected. You can’t have one without the other.
This is most certainly true, but in the realm of energetics, we can take it one step further. What if our mental and emotional states are the basis for why our bodies function the way they do? What if, not only do they go hand-in-hand, one leads to the other? And not in the way we had originally suspected?
What if all of our physical symptoms - negative and positive - are a direct reflection of how we’re doing mentally?
It’s a chicken or the egg conundrum: Which leads to which?
This may seem a bit far-fetched, but when we look at our bodies as big swirling balls of atoms, we are simply big swirling balls of energy, based on potential and kinetic energies that are stored and released when chemical bonds are formed and broken.
Let’s talk about electromagnetic frequency’s role in all of this.
Each human’s personal electromagnetic frequency, or energy, can be quantitatively measured and that measurement is based on how our bodies are functioning. Balanced hormones, increased immunity, and increased cell integrity all lend themselves to higher electromagnetic frequencies.
If we’re not feeling well, we have a much lower frequency than if we’re functioning at our healthiest. The fun piece to play about our frequency is the evidence-based notion that emotions can also be measured on an electromagnetic level.
For example, the emotion of Love has been measured specifically at 528 mHz. This has at least two exciting applications: If we can continue to increase and maintain a personal electromagnetic frequency of or around 528 mHz, we will ultimately be a big swirling ball of ... yep, you guessed it, Love.
Additionally, if we’re feeling something other than Love, contentment, joy, or maybe hope, we are likely sitting at an emotional state below that 528 mHz point and our physical bodies are reflecting what happens when the body functions at that lower level.
Fear, grief, jealousy, or any other emotion that feels less than complete contentment and joy sits much lower on the electromagnetic scale. By addressing, and subsequently adjusting that emotional state, through meditation, exercise, or even clear communication, we can raise our frequencies and improve the way our physical bodies are functioning.
Let’s take it even one step further: Our bodies are extremely literal! Did you know that even words carry a frequency or a vibration? Remember those studies that measured how well a plant grew based on how you spoke to it? If you said loving words, the plant would grow and flourish, while if you insulted or berated the poor plant, it would become stunted or even fail to thrive at all.
Your body will express what you’re mentally playing with. Having literal foot pain? Maybe you’re having trouble taking the next step forward, or maybe you’re struggling to stand on your own two feet. While it’s your foot that’s hurting, it’s your confidence or fear of the unknown that’s screaming for attention!
The connections between physical and emotional experiences need to be part of the conversation.
Remember those examples at the beginning of this post? Not being able to “stomach” a situation, or maybe feeling like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, can both be mental issues that are manifesting themselves physically within your being.
There are a gazillion ways to connect the mental and emotional aspects of our experience with our physical body, and I’m finding the most effective way to manage pain, depression, anxiety, or any other negative “symptom” within the body is to look at how we’re feeling as the first clue!
I’m realizing my resistance to sitting down and writing about this had everything to do with feeling overwhelmed at explaining it. So now that I have, I’m feeling so much more flow! I love how it all connects!
